Welcome to our comprehensive guide on installing HCL Volt MX Go Foundry! Whether you're a seasoned developer or a newcomer eager to harness the power of HCL Volt MX Go, getting Foundry up and running is the first step towards unlocking its full potential. In this blog post, we'll walk you through the installation process, focusing on a Windows Server 2019 environment with MySQL 8.0.37.
HCL Volt MX Go Foundry installs on Windows, Linux or can run as a container. Before installing Foundry, a database server must be available either on the local computer or via the network. Supported database servers are Maria DB, SQL, MySQL and Oracle. For supported OS and database server versions, refer to the documentation: System requirements - HCL Volt MX Go Documentation.
For the purposes of this article, a Windows 2019 server will be used to install Foundry and MySQL 8.0.37 has been installed. Volt MX Go Foundry runs as a Windows service on Windows servers.
As with all HCLSoftware products, the Volt MX Go Foundry server code is available on the HCLSoftware License and Download Portal and you do need to be licensed for Volt MX Go in order to download it.
On the HCLSoftware License and Download Portal from Your Downloads select HCL Volt MX and then Volt MX Go with the specific version.
Download the Volt MX Go Foundry installer for your OS, which for Windows is a compressed zip file. Extract the contents of the downloaded file.
The Volt MX Go Foundry installer is a file called VoltFoundryInstaller<version>.exe, for example VoltFoundryInstaller-9.5.15.9_GA.exe.
Double click on this file to begin the install Wizard that walks you through the configuration.
Highlights of the Install Follow
1 - A Volt MX Go Foundry server must include the console, identity and integration services. For a test environment these may be located on the same server, but for a production environment consider placing the components on separate servers.
2 - For the Application Server you have the options of Tomcat, JBOSS or Weblogic.
3 - For the Foundry database, select the database server type that you previously installed and provide the respective username and password.
In the following screenshot note the Database Name Suffix field. Foundry has six databases that contain configuration and application information. Each of these databases have this string added to the end of its name. When upgrading to a new version of Foundry, you will need to provide this string
For example, using mySQL command “show databases;” was issued and returned the following. The Foundry databases begin with Volt MX.
4 - The installer will have you configure an administrator account used for accessing the Foundry console.
5 - When the install completes you will see a screen like the following. Copy the URLs provided to a text document, i.e. Notepad, and save so you will have them to reference later.
You’ll notice the URLs have an IP address vs a host name. When you install, you can specify a DNS defined host name, which will then be part of the URLs.
6 - To verify Volt MX Go Foundry successfully deployed confirm the Windows Service is running
